Cagers asia challenge

yawns! its been a few days since i last blogged. i've been particularly lazy these few days. all i do when i return home is eat dinner and sleep. wake up in the middle of the night either to play games or to watch EURO 2008.

played a 3-on-3 today. it was organised by a group of students as part of their events management thing. one of them was my macdonald's ex-colleague, Delphine. so go there support her abit. played and lost the first match and it was all over. -_- wasted 15 bucks. but anyway, its good to sweat it out once in awhile.
after which tiong yee and me then headed to catch the cagers' match against malaysia U-18 in the ' Cagers asia basketball challenge 2008' at jurong east sports complex. cagers lost by 12 points. then there was another match, CLS knights(indonesia) against Segamat Rimba Timor. the game, which CLS won by 7 points.
and, felicia chin was there!!! OMFG!!! she's unbelievably gorgeous. so feminine. then there was a super crowd gathered in front of us, cause felicia was there and all of them wanted to get a photo with her.

dine at kfc with kang yi and tiong yee. was talking about all the basketball stuff. and, kang yi is actually contracted to the cagers as a junior player. so envious lah~~ i'm gonna train hard, wanna be on par with kang yi, and the rest of the good players. =)

bus-ed home, saw jieying walking back to her home, didn't call out to her cause i was on the other side of the road.

i'm gonna ball tomorrow morning. =) then head down to queensway in the afternoon to get the yellow/black nike reversible jersey. the exact one that the hornets division 1 team is wearing(minus the printing) and this was tiong yee's idea, might get my compressor shorts or my water bottle as well :)

*i'm missing you. do you feel it?

youth no more.

it's saturday.

yesterday was a tough day. in the wee hours of friday, Germany sunk Portugal 3-2 in the EURO 2008 quarter-finals match. later that night, Hornets lost to Whye Nam. that, too meant that that in 2nd round of the youth cup, Hornets recorded a 3 win and 2 loses and was eliminated out of the youth cup. and coincidentally, portugal lost because of some amateurish defending, which was also the case for us.

yesterday was supposedly a match that we were supposed to win, as of what i saw on court and of what han lin said every quarter and after the match. whye nam yesterday was totally not the team that we all saw every other match. missed passes, lay-ups, travelling, 3-sec in box etc. and, on top of that, the referees are totally helping us, by calling more calls against whye nam. with all these advantages for us, we still couldn't win them, cause we didn't put the ball into the basket. penetrated but missed, open shots but missed.

anyway, thanks to every one that accompanied me throughout the whole of this youth cup. thanks to han lin, for coaching us though he's busy with his own work. thanks to zhi cheng for leading on the team. thanks wei jian for the seemingly limitless energy he has in every game. thanks to darwin for the points he made in all the games. thank for having me as a part of the team and end the youth cup this way. next stop for us will be the 青年杯. * i don't know what is the english version of the tournament call* anyway, that will be the U-22 cup. so let remain as a team and train towards the next tournament and hopefully if Eng Tat Hornets is going to send us for that cup in the years to come.

for now, i'll be joining up with the people of clementi csc to train for the inter-constituency games. don't know if i'll be in, but hopefully, i'll gain something out of training with them. :)
good luck kelvin :) good luck my hornets team mate :) all of you are the best :)

lazy lazy me.

ok. i haven't blogged since wednesday, i think. didn't update about the match against Qian Xi. i think laziness is really creeping up on me. i haven't even started on my holiday assignment, and yes, SCHOOL STARTS NEXT MONDAY! ohmy. should start doing up my homework, somehow.

anyway, yesterday went to watch kungfu panda with charmaine over at junction 8. funny show, lots of laughter, especially Po, the fat panda, he was awesome. anyway, i'm lazy to elaborate, if you want, either u go catch it in the cinemas, or you can go online and watch, cause the show is recommended. :)

today, the last game of 2nd round of our youth cup. make or break will be decided tonight. we win whye nam, we get through together with whye nam. if we lose tonight, WRS will go through with whye nam. i didn't really play well throughout i guess, well, if there is anything that i will want to do to correct it, today's my day of redemption. play well against whye nam, win them and, we'll be in top 6! hopefully. good luck to everyone to me to the team. and hopefully tiong yee's ankle is well enough to allow him to play, we do need everyone badly tonight.

go hornets!!!

Tuesday, June 17

another random post :)

i've been staying at home for the past 3 days.

most of my time are spent on sleeping. which, i'm beginning to feel that it is not a very good sign. i'm purely wasting away my two weeks of holidays. not even a single holiday assignment is done.

my daily routine for the past 3 days are like wake up, then use lappy, then eat, then lappy again, then nap, then lappy through the night. even friend who jio-ed me to basketball have been ps-ed by me, cause i stayed up through the night, so my sleeping time would be like in the morning stretching over to the afternoon.

tonight shall not be like this anymore. cause i've a game at SBC tomorrow evening. so got to get ample rest. which i'm still in doubt i'll do, cause though i do say i need to sleep, what i am really gonna do should be hell different. I'M CURRENTLY ADDICTED TO FOOTBALL MANAGER 2008, that's why!

anyway, tomorrow's fixture is against Qian Xi Youth, which on paper, says that we should have no problem winning them as i personally believe all our players, minus tiong yee(he sprained his ankle) have the calibre to outclass(and hopefully out muscle) the Qian Xi players. 7pm, SBC court1. we can do it guys!

and, thurday shall be my movie day. :) :) watching kung fu panda with sotong. then come friday, the day of revelation of the hornets youth team. our final match of round 2. against Whye Nam. make or break, i guess ultimately will be decided on that day. win whye nam, and we're through to the top 6. lose, and we'll have to hope for a miracle to be bestowed upon our team. blame it on our inability to convert our chances when we played against WRS, but since its already in the past, no use dwelling on, all to do no is to work doubly hard to win the remaining fixtures and we'll be safe.

that's all guys, wish us all the best for tomorrow and, transmit some brainwave to me to tell me to stop sleeping so late. its bad for health. :)

lousy refereeing spoils the game

ok. i'm here to rant about today's game against WRS.

first things first, i really do suspect that the referees that officiate the matches at kembangan have serious problems of not calling foul when there is and calling fouls when it isn't. they have fucking no idea on how to officiate the game. not only the referee on court. even the table officials that takes care of the scoreboard are equally stupid as the referees, doing mistakes like adding score to the wrong team. not resetting the 24sec shot clock. the worse thing is that even when they fucking know that its their mistake, and the coach are complaining about it, they just walked over to the coach and tell them,"never mind lah, forget it." it's like wtf?! they call themselves referee?

i seriously doubt their ability as a referee. this is sub standard refereeing. god knows how they passed their test and got their license. the referees are truly what you call an " 'A' " grade referee. no other can be better than those few at the match today.

as for us, we started real well, drew first blood when zhi cheng penetrated and scored an easy basket. led them in terms of score for the first half. then, the second half, WRS overrun us with that no.11 scoring baskets through some good penetrations. he's real good. not to mention the referee calling stupid 'not there' fouls on our players. fuck those referee seriously, stupid old guy, might as well go home watch porn.
towards the end jeremy #5 committed an unsportsman foul that allowed WRS to score a basket within the last few seconds of the game. ultimately, we lost to them by 3 points, the gap wasn't that big actually, they were, at one time only leading us by 5, so we weren't that bad today, just so happen that we were unlucky. more to improve on guys!

as for myself. i almost got a technical foul when i threw the ball away instead of giving it to the referee whilst i was on bench, he stared at me, contemplating to call that technical foul on me. in the end, he didn't and i continued swearing the referee at the bench.

well, seriously, i've got to improve on my temper, or else i might cause the team to lose in the remaining two games. like what zhi cheng told me, yes, everyone felt freaking angry when fouls are called against us when its not supposed to be, but if i continued to fuck the referee, it will only do us more harm as the referee will be pissed off to the point that he will be biased against our team.
so for me, i've to improve on my lousy temper. other than that, i had quite an okay game, defended well, but allowed no.11 to penetrate to the baseline a few times, as said by jin hang who took us for the day. attempted a 3, mid-range and a penetration, but missed all. -_- never mind, i'm getting my confidence back, so jia you kelvin, get rid of the temper and it'll be better.

good game guys, more communications and more passes. be calm and we'll make it. JIA YOU HORNETS!

training on sunday at 9am at cck cc. see ya guys there :)

game

oh wells, am here to talk about yesterday's game.

so it turned out that yesterday's match was better than what i had expected it to be. though i didn't make more attempts or penetrate, i felt that the confidence was there, and quite a good game.

the score however, didn't really reflect on that it was a good game. we've only won kaixuan by 6 points. tiong yee got himself fouled out of the game with 4 charging and a blocking foul -_- some guy. anyway, kaixuan weren't any better in terms of their foul trouble. hui han got fouled out first followed by their no.7

the referees are arseholes. seriously. rong lie, who took over us for the day as han lin had to attend to his grandmother's funeral. called three times for a time out but the officials at the table just yakked away and did not even hear his calls. wtf?! and that curly-haired referee on court had incredible vision. i think yesterday's match had the most calls for travelling. he's catching people travelling like no one's business.

in terms of us playing, we totally dominated the first half of the game, end of first quarter, we led by 23 or 24 to 8. finished off the first half leading kaixuan by 17. but all hell broke lose as they caught up with us in third quarter and at one point in time they were actually leading us by 4 points. then forth quarter when hui han and that no.7 got fouled out, we got ourselves more breathing space and the offense came back points are score, defense tightened up quite abit, and yes, we won it.

after game, we headed to han lin grandmother's funeral. sat and talked abit about the game, discussing about our next opponents. left for tiong yee's house after that. didn't get a wink at all last night, cause my knees hurts. balled today in the morning at dunearn. played till noon and then headed home. i napped from after dinner time till now. woah. i'm tired. all my days are basketball and more basketball, but i'm lovin' it! haha

good luck for tomorrow's match against WRS. win them and we can confidently go on against Qian Xi next wednesday. and final round will become a reality. JIA YOU HORNETS! hang in there, we're doing great right now.

groupings for 2nd round of youth cup

i've received this piece of information firstly from wei jian, then asked wei quan to confirm it with his kaixuan coach. since both speak of the same thing, i believe the information wouldn't be wrong.

Eng Tat Hornets are drawn together into Group X which comprises of:
Whye Nam,
WRS(woodlands ring sec),
Kaixuan,
and lastly, Qian Xi Youth

the first match for us will be tomorrow at kembangan at 8.30pm versus kaixuan.

oh boy~ have to face against my ex classmate + ex team mates. shits. i'm already beginning to feel nervous just thinking about it. i'm worried that the 3 of them have improved much much more then me that they are all better then me. :(

it's really not a promising prospect for me if it really is the truth. i don't want them to look at me and think, "oh~ this is what has become of kelvin, slow, lousy can't do anything. this hornets team must be desperate, that's why he's in the team"

maybe i think too much but this kind of things happen. i haven't been sleeping well lately cause every time i go to bed, i'll think of the past 3 matches of the first round. i think of all the mistakes, the missed shots, everything. let's hope it'll turn out better for me.

i'll be going down to school to shoot some baskets, provided elijah and tiong yee comes along. which i hope they will. i badly need some last minute conditioning on my defense. want to do some stuff that i used to do during training in secondary school. this is like my last resort? i can't think of any other way to strengthen up my defense. sigh~

well, good luck kelvin. and GOOD LUCK HORNETS! win all your game. play as if it's our last.

match against geylang serai csc

ARGH!!! fucked up game today.

got there early, prepared well, warmed up and ready to go. but yet, what happened in the next 40 minutes don't quite tally with it.

the starter went up looking all set, but yet, the play was totally rubbish. though we led the opposing team throughout, except one short period in the 2nd quarter, but all that could be said is that we had a lousy game. plus the referee didn't help our team at all by calling some unjustified fouls against us.

today i didn't seat on bench for too long. after 2 consecutive fouls that zhi cheng made, i was quickly called upon. not that i did better. one silly indescribable turnover. coach totally F-ed me upside down. after that short moment on court, i had a few more brief spells on court. abit more calm then the first time round, passes were better, i had a great chance but blew it away, cause i didn't make that bloody lay-up.

and at one point of time, our lead was cut down to a mere 2 points because of some amateur-ish turnovers and that 2 3-pointers that the opposing no.8 made. thankfully jeremy replied with his 3 or 4 consecutive mid range shots. thus we were able to extend back our lead to 10 points.

assessment of myself:
still the same as the last game. need more improvements on game awareness. passes got to be more robust and of a good choice. calm down when taking shots, and, break from screens.

well, overall, not bad, but 2nd round would be more tougher than today's game, so we've got to buck up as a team, communicate more, help out on each other on defense, etc etc. alot more to do if we wanna to get through to final round and even to the point of getting hold of a medal.

tomorrow's the drawing of lots for the 2nd round grouping. hopefully we don't get team that are too overwhelmingly powerful like combined schools(red), tagawa, whye nam etc etc. and pray that our matches are not on tuesday, which is like 2 days away. the further back the better. :)

WORK HARD HORNETS!!! work hard kelvin. VISION's the keyword!
it's sunday 8th of june 2008 at 5.46am.

lets say i was sort of asked to post this one.

a few hours back, saw my friendster had a new friend's request. i didn't know who on earth was this girl that was trying to add me. but being a friendly guy, i accepted.

gave me a comment so i replied back with one. and on and on we went replying one another's comment in that short 1 hour, even whilst i'm playing sushido on viwawa. -_-

anyway, its close to 5.51am now, and i'm chatting with her on msn, and just a few moments ago i was nicely asked to post the sentence below:

"TODAY I MADE FRIEND AND CHATTED WITH THAT GIRL, NAMED ZIQUN"

zq: cannot write met, cause haven't physically met u yet.

i'm mad. seriously. at 5 something in the morning, i'm still chatting with someone on msn when i should be asleep.

since i'm already updating, might as well say this,
later at 7pm, i'm having my final match for the first round of the youth cup. versus geylang serai csc. JIA YOU HORNETS!!! jia you myself!!! ALL THE BEST!!!

Thursday, June 5

match against millenia institute

just got back from the match at kembangan.

the journey there was indescribable. nonsense place to have a match. too far.

anyway, today we're up against millenia institute to fight for a place in the second round.
we did well, won well and yes. most importantly, we've secured a spot in the second round of this year's youth cup.

we won millenia by 44 points. final score was 65-21 in favour of us. everyone did well, particularly wai kin, elden, lian jie, covin and zhi cheng. elden managed to get quite a few fast breaks during the 4th quarter when millenia forwards and guard had some lapses in their communication. GOOD JOB ELDEN!

well, for me, i sat through the whole of first half. its abit weird for me to sit through so long, cause i've never tried that before. played quite abit, better than first game, alas only scoring one point from the free throw. i was playing point guard yet again. stressed out cause i'm played out of my normal position. defensively, was bit better, i managed to follow the opposing point guard quite well enough.

overall comment for myself:
better than previous game, but need more composure and awareness in game cause i'm now playing more as a point guard rather than forward. BUCK UP!

sunday we're up against geylang serai csc. they've got quite a few good 3 point shooter in the team. so gotta be more alert and try to stop those players from getting their shots. COME ON TEAM! LETS DO IT! hopefully can go through the second round at the top team of our group.

now abit on how i felt on today's game
today i had a bad day. not that i wasn't expecting it, but maybe mentally i haven't really prepared myself for what is going on. i was super disappointed that i sat through the whole of first half. didn't feel that i was an integral part of the team. got bit bad to the point that i was bit disillusioned about my place in the team. maybe its all because in secondary school days i was often used by coach, so the fact that i had to seat through 1half didn't go down quite well for me. plus coach chose others before me, maybe he didn't mean it that way, but somehow i felt so and caused me to feel a little down because of it.

its time to get rid of that mentality. i should really get on with it and face the fact that i've got more to learn before i can play my point guard role well. hopefully coach will let me play more when we go into the 2nd round.
BUCK UP TEAM! buck up kelvin!

other than that, i'm quite happy and impressed at myself recently. cause i've managed to shoot 3 points more easily. i don't have that forced shot feeling i used to have anymore. and my percentage for 3 points is getting better. EFFORT kelvin. NOW, WORK ON YOUR POINT GUARD POSITION kelvin. !!! no time to waste if i wan't to play more in the game.

jia you U-18 hornets, jia you everyone. jia you kelvin. you can do it, hopefully.

my hundredth post

YAY!

common test's over!!! hurray!~
but engineering mechanics was a total disaster. i'll be thanking god if i even managed to pass the subject. damn! result of never studying. sigh sigh~ lucky i studied for EG1 and ELTECH or else i can just go find any wall and bang on it.

just came back from my balling session. played with tiong yee, oswa and gary! hah what a coincidence to bump into him there. plus before that he messaged me regarding the clementi csc stuff. i'll be training for the inter cons game with clementi csc, thanks to gary for the recommendation!

its a good thing i balled with gary. made me realise what i've forgotten since the end of last year competition. my defense was utterly horrible today. lucky he tipped me and i realise my mistake. and thanks to oswa to help me try out the defensive moves. though i'm slower than what i used to be, but i'm getting the hang of it again. just tt my knees not in very good condition, so still bit slow. I'LL WORK HARD TO REGAIN WHAT I LOST!!! tomorrow, i shall make MI cry with my 3pointers and my defense. :D:D:D

yeah. tomorrow. versus millenia institute. 8.30pm at kembangan. we WILL win, we WILL get to 2nd round. cause we are a TEAM!

so anyone who wants to support can come down yea! the venue, as the BAS says, is just right beside kembangan mrt station. so please do come and support eng tat hornets alright! :)

GOOD LUCK MATES!

Monday, June 2

:) hornets won!

yawns! i'm so tired. somebody please recharge my battery for me please! :)

had ELTECH common test at 11. fairly easy, finished within 45 mins. and was handed up 15 mins later, cause i was bit embarrassed to leave early as others was like struggling with the paper.

wasn't as difficult as i thought it would be. but still i did have some doubts on some questions. tsk, result of never study well and thorough enough. :S

ate and pool near school, before heading home for a nap.

met up with tiong yee to head down to sbc. catched MI versus geylang serai csc. stupid match. geylang dominated throughout the whole game. ended with the score 92-30plus. MI... nothing to say. hopefully we can aso win them by that kind of score.

our game against admiralty, good! great job guys! though we only won them by 18 points, but its still a good double digit win.
like what han lin said. everyone contributed in all aspects that lead to our win. but sadly, i never scored any points. only drew foul to let opponent gain possession. darn.

assessment of my game today:
defense: fairly good, but not tight enough;
offense: assist was alright, but never really drive in or take shots.
overall: more to be improved on.

sad...

but its alright. i'll bounce back from this set back. :)

that's all for today. good luck for EG1 tomorrow. :):)
